What we collect
Searches. The titles and author names you look up are sent to our server to find and rate the book. They are not linked to you. Results are cached so the next reader gets them faster.
Ratings and flags you submit. When you rate a book's spice or explicitness, add a warning or trope, or flag a retailer, we store the vote with a random token that identifies your browser or app install, not you. The token exists so one person can't cast the same vote twice. It contains no name, email, or device identifier, and we cannot connect it back to you.
Books you add. A title, author, blurb and optional store link you paste are stored and shown publicly as reader-added.
Server logs. Like every website, our server records the IP address and pages requested for each visit, for security and rate limiting. Logs are not used for tracking and are rotated.
What we don't do
No accounts, no email collection, no advertising trackers, no analytics scripts, no selling or sharing of data with anyone. Fonts are served by Bunny Fonts, which does not log visitors.
Links to stores
Buy and listen links go to Amazon, Bookshop.org, Apple Books, Kobo, and libraries. Some of those links carry an affiliate tag, so if you buy something we may earn a commission at no cost to you. What you do on those sites is covered by their privacy policies, not ours.
Where the data lives and who to ask
The service runs on a single server in the United States. Book data comes from Open Library, Google Books and Apple's public catalog. To ask about or delete anything, email [email protected]. Because votes are not tied to an identity, deleting a specific vote requires the token from your device, which the app can show you on request.
Age
Spice Level describes the sexual content of books but does not show explicit material. The app is rated 17+ in the app stores.
